The Attfield family Tree

One of our hobbies in recent years has been to do some research on our family tree, both on the 'Attfield' and 'MacLeod' sides of the family. We have succeeded in tracing our ancestors back through many generations - back to the late 18th century in parts. The information on our family tree is not reproduced on this site, partly for security reasons and partly due to the volume of information, but if you have an interest in the Attfield or MacLeod genealogy, please get in touch and tell us a bit about yourself.

In addition to our own 'attfield' family tree, we also have come accross a couple of other Attfield genealogies, as yet unconnected to our own, but we hope maybe to establish a link sometime!

Family Coat of ArmsThere is a crest and coat of arms attributed to the Attfield name, shown on the left (click for larger version). It is described as follows in Burke's "General Armoury":

"Per chev. sa and ar., (another erm and sa) in chief two dolphins hauriant respecting eachother, or Crest - an arm embowed throwing an arrow in fesse."
The motto 'Conatum' or 'Endeavour' was used by William Attfield MA Oxon about 1811 (grandson of Henry Attfield of Chertsey), but it's early origin is obscure.
