AUDAX ALTITUDE AWARD
My Permanent Events
I have started a series of permanent events based on my favourite lanes in and around the Yorkshire Dales.
Enter an event in the normal way by sending a completed AUK application form, a cheque for £3 (£5.00 non-members) payable to Steve Snook, and two stamped addressed envelopes (normal DL size 110mm x 220mm are plenty big enough) to me at my home address. This is listed on the AUK website and in the Handbook.
OR, if you have the technology, email me the image of a completed AUK application form and send a Paypal payment for £4.00 (£6.00 non-members) to my email address. The Paypal price includes all postage and package.
Widdop 50 1.25 AAA points
This event starts from Hebden Bridge and fits in three moorland crossings and 1,325m of ascent into 52km, visiting Oxenhope, Haworth, Wycoller and Widdop on the way. Despite being within easy reach of some big towns and cities, it has a sense of remoteness and Pennine grandeur. There is a cafe stop at Wycoller, though its hours are "approximate". There are lots more cafes and food shops in Haworth and Hebden Bridge. The event can also be started from Haworth.

Deepdale and Fleet Moss 120 2.5 AAA points
This event starts from Settle, avoids the A65 to Ingleton, then climbs over Kingsdale to Deepdale and Dent, and on to Dent Head and Hawes. Then over Fleet Moss, the highest metalled pass in the Dales and one of the highest in England, to the delights of Langstrothdale and Wharfedale, before one last leg-stretch over the moors back to Settle. Plenty of scenery and cafes on offer on the way. Favourable reports from some early entrants: "It deserves to become a classic"; "One of the best days out I've ever had on a bike". Can also be started from Hawes or Grassington.

Silverdale and Wharfedale 100 2 AAA points
Start in Ilkley. Cross from Wharfedale to Airedale and Malhamdale, then over the moors to Settle and along two of the quieter dales: Silverdale to Halton Gill, then Littondale where with a tailwind you will hardly need to pedal. Finish on the back lanes along picturesque Wharfedale. Stunning scenery on a clear day. Cafe control at Buffers where you can play trains if you wish. Can also be started from Cononley, Settle or Grassington.

Park Rash and Swaledale 200 4.5 AAA points
This 217km event starts from Clitheroe (I did say in and around the Dales, and the locals are just as friendly as in Yorkshire). A gentle roll to Barnoldswick and Wharfedale to warm you up for the ascent of Park Rash, then descend Coverdale to Middleham and Wensleydale before crossing into Swaledale and Kirkby Stephen. Back via the Coal Road, Dentdale and Deepdale, Tatham Fell and Waddington Fell. Can also start at Barnoldswick, Grassington, Middleham, Kirkby Stephen or Ingleton.
