AUDAX ALTITUDE AWARD
AAA Super Randonneur Award

There are two enticements to enter the longer AAA events. Not only do they get more AAA points under the new points scheme, but there is now also a new AAA Super Randonneur Award.
The award is available to those who complete an SR Series composed entirely of AAA events.
Any event which can be included in an SR Series can also be included in an AAA Super Randonneur Series provided it also has AAA points. An event can be counted as a shorter one as long as it has AAA points. For example if you already have ridden one 600, a second one can be counted as a 400, a 300 or a 200 if required.
Complete the SR events in the normal way in a season.
To claim the award, check that your qualifying rides are listed on the AUK Results Page of the AUK website. Then email or write to me, the AAA Man, listing the dates of your rides. My email address is at the bottom of this page, my postal address is in the AUK Handbook.
A cloth badge is available as pictured above, price £3.00 including postage and package.
Either:
1. Post payment to me (if a cheque made payable to Steve Snook). My postal address is in the AUK Handbook. Please do not send a stamped addressed envelope.
Or:
2. Send payment via Paypal to my email address which is at the bottom of this page.
The award can be claimed from the 2009 season onwards.
So if you like your SR events to come with a scenic challenge, this could be the award for you. It will be well earned.

2012 claims
Martin Berry took the Mille Cymru as a 600 and the Bryan Chapman as a 400 to complete his AAASR in 2010.
Alex Rendu completed his AAASR on 14 May 2011 with the Bryan Chapman, a popular event to do so in PBP year.
2011 claims
Paul Stewart completed another early season AAASR on 14 May 2011 with the Bryan Chapman. One of his earlier rides was a DIY by GPS.
Paul Rainbow completed an early season AAASR (along with several others) with the Bryan Chapman on 14 May 2011.
Steve Bryce completed his AAASR "unintentionally" on 17 Sep 2011 with the Hartside, preceded by The Old 240, Clawdd Offa, and The 3 Coasts 600 taken as a 300.
Richard Berry completed his second AAASR on 30 Sep 2011 riding the Bryan Chapman on 14 May 2011, The 3 Coasts 600 taken as a 400, the Heart of Wales 300 and the Severn & Wye 200 Permanent to finish with.
Julian Williams clocked up his second AAASR with the Bryan Chapman on 14 May 2011, having preceded it with the The Dean (taken as a 200), The Elenith and the Brevet Cymru.
Lee Hargreaves completed his AAASR with the Dorset Coast 200 on 11 June 2011, entering The Dean 300, Brevet Cymru 400 and the Bryan Chapman 600 beforehand.
Steve Main completed his AAASR on that popular date of 14 May 2011 with the Bryan Chapman 600, having preceded it with the Mad March Coasts and Quantocks, the Elenith and Brevet Cymru, these four events being the only four on the calendar for him this year so far.
Pete Stott completed his AAASR unknowingly on 11 June 2011 with the Dorset Coast 200, having preceded it with The Dean 300, Offa's Dyke 400 and the Bryan Chapman 600.
Steve Poulton completed his second consecutive AAASR on 4 June 2011 with the Offa's Dyke 600, with most of the AAA points Welsh ones.
Tim Taylor completed his AAA and AAASR with the Bryan Chapman on 14 May 2011, having ridden The Dean, the Brevet Cymru and the Kings, Castles, Priests & Churches earlier in the year.
Justin Chapman has just four events to his name so far this year, the Mad March Coasts and Quantocks, the 3D 300, the Brevet Cymru and the Kernow and Southwest 600 on 28 May. Maybe it's the challenge of AAASR and nothing to do with PBP qualification. Maybe not.
Congratulations to David Parkes, who added the AAASR to his AAARTY, AAA and 3xAAA awards when he rode Offa's Dyke 600 on 4 June 2011. His other events were the Elenith 300, and the Brevet Cymru and a choice of several 200s.
Jonathan Saville and Andy Heyting are first to complete the AAASR in 2011, completing it on 14 May with the Bryan Chapman 600. Andy's previous events were the Valley of the Rocks 200, The Dean 300, and the Brevet Cymru 400. Jonathan's were Dic Penderyn 200, The Elenith 300, and also the Brevet Cymru.
Claims before 2011
Congratulations to Ron Lawrence, who is the first to complete and claim the AAASR award, not only in his "first real year of Audax" (his words) but also made up of classic AUK events: the Dorset Coast 200, the Elenith, the Brian Chapman (taken as a 400) and the Kernow and Southwest 600. He occupies the first place in the Roll of Honour of people who have successfully completed the AAA Super Randonnneur Award.
Scott Williams is the second to claim the AAA SR award, including more classic AUK events: the Elenith, the Brian Chapman, the Irish Mail, and the Midlander Super Grimpeur 300 taken as a 200.
Richard Lay is the third to claim the award, and so far the second to complete it, also including the Elenith, the Brian Chapman, and the Irish Mail.
Julian Williams is the fourth to claim the award, and also completed the same three events as Richard Lay, with the Severn to Wye as his 200. But for the regrettable omission of AAA points from the Brevet Cymru calendar event in 2009, Julian would have been the first to complete a double AAASR award this season.
Richard Berry completed the award on 26 Sep with the Wrekin to Sea permanent taken as a 200. His other events were The Elenith, the Brian Chapman, and the Irish Mail, a popular combination he shares with three of the four successful claimants so far. "Spookily", he said, "Richard Lay, Julian, and myself rode the whole of the LEL 2009 together."
Julian Brown is sixth to claim the award and first with a set of Welsh rides, the Clwydian, the Bryan Chapman, the Irish Mail and the Heart of Wales. "And it only rained on one of them" he says.
Peter Mennicke is the first to claim the award twice. He completed it the hard way on 4 July 2009, with an SR series consisting of the Dorset Coast 200 and 3 600s, the Bryan Chapman, the Kernow and Southwest 600 and Offa's Dyke, and repeated it in 2010 with the Four Hundreds 200, the Wu'ze 400, the Bryan Chapman and the Kernow and Southwest 600.
Bernie Hammond is the first to complete the award in 2010, with an SR Series of The Cambrian, The Elenith, Brevet Cymru and the Bryan Chapman.
Martin Newstead completed the award on 17 July 2010, with a northern series of Round the West Riding 200, The Snow Roads 300, the Lanchester 400 and The 3 Coasts 600.
Judith Swallow and Dave Minter completed the award on 15 May 2010, with an SR Series of the Dorset Coast, The Elenith, Brevet Cymru and the Bryan Chapman, all classic AUK events.
Ian Sharpe's award completed on 22 May 2010, was very nearly all on Welsh roads with the Camarthen Bay 200, Brevet Cymru, the Bryan Chapman and Teifi Traveller.
Jonathan Stainton-Ellis also included Brevet Cymru in his award, and the Hardboiled 300, now a perm.
Simon Spooner's award was another with a mostly Welsh flavour, including The Elenith, Brian Chapman, Taith Mynydd a Mor and finishing with the Mille Cymru.
Billy Weir's SR series stretched from the south-west with the Kernow and Southwest 600 to the far north with the Snow Roads 300, and from west with a Cambrian Series 400 to the north-east with the Durham and Northumberland 200.
Neil Veitch took Mille Cymru on 23 Jul 2010 as a 200 to complete his AAA SR series, with other popular Welsh (border) events, The Elenith, Brevet Cymru and the Bryan Chapman.
Steve Poulton covered similar ground with his own
Gospel Pass 200 perm, Brevet Cymru, Bryan Chapman and the Snowdon & Coast 400
completed on 12 Jun 2010.
Matt Haigh completed his AAA SR in 2009 with the Hellfire 600 taken as a 200 on 19 Sep. His other events were the Elenith, the Bryan Chapman and the Irish Mail.
Toby Hopper has had a full season of hard rides during which he has completed 3 AAA SR awards, the last of these including the Hellfire 600, the Mille Cymru taken as a 400, and the Cambrian Series 8A perm taken as a 300.
