Nice car - yes - that is what I thought and it was till July 2004 when the
car failed an MOT due to an incorrect size of tyre having been fitted.
Spare tyre size 165 mm provided by Waterside
which was transferred to the car in February 2004, resulting
in mixed tyre sizes (3 x 175 mm and 1 x 165 mm).
The MOT FAILURE meant the car was NOT LEGAL and as a result
THE INSURANCE INVALID
An offence with the possibility of police prosecution on more then one count
I have in writing from the Department of Transport
VOSA (Vehicle & Operator Services Agency)
A vehicle with mixed tyre size on any axle
constitutes an MOT Failure.
Quote from a letter from my insurer :
"If a garage have advised that your car will fail an MOT
by having a 165 mm tyre fitted, then we could not
guarantee your Insurance would still be valid
if a claim happened whilst your spare (165 mm) is fitted to this vehicle."
My interpretation of this
NO INSURANCE COVER
This could have resulted in serious consequences
for myself in the event of an accident and subsequent claim.
I was unaware this situation had arisen.
Buying a Classic car privately can be fraught with dangers,
difficulties and problems, which is why I approached
Waterside Classics in the first place.
You don't go to Waterside expecting to pick up a bargain
no - you expect to pay top prices for a sound
A1 CAR THAT IS TOTALLY LEGAL.
I paid top price for my car and I was happy to do so in the belief
that I would avoid any such problems.
Waterside Classics advertise themselves as
Scotland's premier Classic and Vintage car business and
operate from large purpose built premises.
In the general scheme of things an incorrect size tyre is a fairly minor problem.
It should have been easy and hassle free to rectify which is what I thought
until I telephoned Mr Reid the proprietor of Waterside Classics.
Mr Reid dismissed my concerns as irrelevant and stated MGBs
never had a spare tyre which is incorrect.
After that initial unproductive telephone call, I placed my concerns in writing,
giving Mr Reid the opportunity to consider my complaint.
Mr Reid ignored my letter without having the manners
or courtesy to either reply or acknowledge receipt.
He treated me with complete contempt.
I still find it hard to reconcile the unhelpful
and uncooperative response from Waterside.
I certainly never envisaged having to compile such a website
I am not saying you will definitely have a bad experience
if you purchase your car from Waterside Classics.
I did and now pose the question is
Waterside Classics the correct place to purchase your Classic car?
In my opinion Mr Reid's professionalism
and commitment to customers is
My advice based on my experience with Waterside Classics
is go elsewhere
to buy your Classic car
Spare Tyre Provided by Waterside Classics

THROUGH NO FAULT OF MY OWN
JUDGE FOR YOURSELF!!
It is sad that Mr Reid has not grasped the fact that I have moved
from being a well satisfied customer to total dissatisfaction with obvious implications.
The above represents a totally accurate account of the situation with my car.
I have all the necessary documentation in support of the above.
