My name
is Nigel Alefounder and I live with my wife, son and
daughter on the English border with Wales. I believe
reading is one of the best ways of broadening the mind, and
though multimedia may be the way of the future (or the
'now' if you believe all the pundits) nothing beats a bit
of sliced tree with carbon-based ink on it for relaxing the
body and stirring-up the brain. They are pretty portable
and have a wonderful battery life.
My
interests other than Desmond Bagley? Okay. I am keen on
Archaeology, Science of all kinds, Reading and Writing and
of course this gorgeous Apple iMac which has soaked up so
much of my spare cash!
Other
Authors? Well I read a lot so tend to compartmentalise. For
historical fiction you really can't beat the superb Lindsey
Davis and her lively Ancient Rome. For science-fiction, how
about Poul Anderson, Connie Willis and Ian Watson? Other
thriller/mystery writers I read regularly include: Ellis
Peters, Alistair MacLean and of course Agatha Christie.
There are many others and I'm doing my best to assimilate!
TV?
- Hardly watch it. I get enough EM radiation from the PCs
at work! Well, okay I do a bit, but no 'Soaps'. I've
collected a lot of classic TV DVDs lately and so when
nothing else is on I dive in. Science documentaries are
fine though, and the comedy of people like Dave Allen, Drop
the Dead Donkey and Have I got News For You?
Films?
- Good quality thrillers (mysteries), classic
science-fiction, and the historical "Carry On" comedies.
These aren't really considered politically correct these
days, but what the heck, they're British and they're funny!
(Go on, admit it, you watched and laughed didn't you?)
Likes?
- Good manners and politeness (they are NOT weaknesses).
Dislikes?
- People who say, "Oooh yes, I read a book once, years ago.
What was it called...?"
Motto?
- "Anyone can have 'attitude', but it takes a brain to have
an 'opinion'".
Had
Enough? - Good! This could end up being far too
pompous!
