Barbara Jupe

My husband David and I first acquired an interest in medieval illuminated manuscripts some years ago when we saw the magnificent 12th century Winchester Bible in the Winchester Cathedral Library. Also in the library, to help visitors appreciate its script, was a copy of Stan Knight's Historical Scripts. Our interest led us to buy the book, which shows the various historical hands through a range of medieval manuscripts. Then we decided to have a try ourselves writing with the broad-nibbed pen, and one thing led to another. Painting and gilding letter forms is my chief interest at the moment. Medieval limners would often learn their skill by copying the work of others - I have done the same.

All the work shown in the gallery is copyright. Eventually I plan to include information about (a) videos and CD ROMs which we have found instructive, (b) books which we have found useful, and (c) other relevant information. Please e-mail me with any comments you may have.
