Match Report

The last fixture before the Christmas break proved to be another comfortable fixture for the Barley boys. The game scheduled to be played at Claregate Park was moved Hilton Road just at the start of the weekend due to pitch vandalism, a descion that proved to be to much for Corithians to handle. Barley arrived as usual an hour before kick off to prepare for the match but the surposered home side were unable to do the same. Some of the corinthian lads arrived twenty minutes before the scheduled kick off, the rest followed still arriving well into the first half. The game was delayed and finally kicked off at 2.35pm with Corinthian only having Eight men, a number that increased to Ten in time for half time. (Sorry to ramble on about the pre-match, but the match itself provided no excitment). Barley started the way they always do, hurried and sloppy but soon settled into the match. Few chances were made but Barley controlled the game from start to finish. The first of the two goals coming just before the half hour, a nicely bouncing ball struckon the half volley into the bottom corner to give Richard Porter his tenth of the season. Two minutes later it was 2-0, a corner swung into the near post from Cartwright and Evans with a elegant back heel that was parried into the net by the Corinthian keeper. The second half was much like the first, Barley keeping possesion but failing to find that killer ball in the final third. Stand in keeper and captain Sewell could'nt have wished for an easier game between the sticks.

League Tables.
