Match Report
Barley's fifth pre-season friendly started with a un-familiar midfield with Stephen Evans playing down the left and Rich Hale playing a defensive role. But it was still the same old early lack of concentration which left Barley behind after just 7minutes when the Custom's striker (No.10) ran onto a slick through ball and slotted home easily into the bottom right hand corner. Barley then levelled after finally managing to string two passes together and Evans through ball found Shaun Porter who dribbled the ball into the penalty area and finished with power and ease from 10 yards. But despite the 1-1 score line Barley could not get to grips with the game and the customs over ran the midfield. 21minutes in Smith picked up a knock was substituted and the versatile and Matt Price filled in at left back. The game fizzled through to half time with Corinthian Custom's looking much the far better side. The second half started in slightly better fashion with signs that Barley might start to take the game to the Custom's following a double substitution, but then it all when wrong again when on 56minutes keeper Pickett spilled a hard and low cross into the Custom's No.10's path and he made it 1-2 from close range. Ten minutes later it was trouble again and a crazy push from keeper Pickett on the Custom's player left no choice for the referee to award a penalty and who else but the No.10 stepped up to bag his hatrick and make the score 1-3. Then bad turned to worse two minutes later and the Custom's goal machine scored his fourth and put the game completely beyond Barley's reach. Again the game fizzled through and a combination of some woeful passing on Barley's part and the Custom's enthusiasm to want to play football meant more chances for the Custom's who eventually made it 1-5, 10minutes from time and then 1-6 moments from the final whistle. All in all a very poor and disappointing display and certainly one to forget.
