Match Report
The game against regular pre-season challengers Myvod Inn started with Myvod showing there intensions with a shot just a few seconds in, but it was a poor one and it fizzled wide. The first half was to end in a stalemate but not through the lack of efforts on either teams part. Barley responding to Myvod's early chance with attempts from S Porter, Cartwright and Westbury in the opening 10minutes. Myvod then notched up a couple of chance's, Cornaby giving a free-kick away in a dangerous position on 11minutes but the chance was wasted and then on 17minutes a further attempt was fumbled wide by keeper Pickett. It was an entertaining match with both sides playing some good stuff. Barley produced the best chance of the half just before the half hour when Green headed the ball across the box, S Porter failed to contact but Cartwright was there with a spectacular bicycle kick at the far post which produced a fantastic tip over from the Myvod keeper. Myvod then became increasingly frustrated as they failed to breach the Barley back line and player/manager Roberts got himself into the referee's note book just before half time. The second half started as the first ended with Myvod aggravated at there poor spell and just 4minutes into the half the ball fell to the feet of stand in captain Wollaston on the edge of the 18yard box and his low drilled effort found the bottom corner of the net 1-0. Barley then made it 2-0 on 51minutes from a Freeman free kick which was whipped into the penalty area and a looping header from a Myvod defender left the keeper helpless. Myvod tried to pull themselves back into the match and produced a wonderful save from Pickett on 57minutes. But if was Barley who scored again on the half hour mark when the Myvod keeper failed to deal with a long ball and Cartwright rounded him and played a ball across the goal line for substitute R Porter to finish in lazy fashion. Myvod then decided to get there game together and a shot hit the bar just 2minutes after the restart. Freeman was the involved another bizarre goal when Pickett made a good save from close range and Freeman failed to control the loose ball and bundled it into his own net 3-1. 71minutes a corner for Myvod was whipped into the near post and lack of concentration meant poor marking and a bullet headed to make it 3-2. 10minutes later after much Myvod pressure Smith lost his man down the left, Freeman attempted to cover but ball was played inside and Myvod equalized as the ball was slipped coolly past Picket. Plenty of promise from the Barley performance but also a good lesson learned about protecting the lead.
