Match Report

Barley couldn't have hoped for a better draw in the Quarter-Finals, and the team was upbeat traveling to local side Orton Vale Youth. The game started with both teams taking time to settle on a difficult surface, the bobbling around made it hard to control. After the early period Barley took full control of the game with Vale playing a long ball direct style making it easy for the Barley defenders. It was more a case of when Barley would score rather than if and they could only throw the game away rather than lose it. 20minutes gone and Barley got the first concrete chance the ball falling to Richard Porter on the edge of the six yard box and he turned and shot but a good save from the Vale keepers left hand kept it out before Evans rebound was blocked by a defender. Ten minutes later on the half hour some good play between Evans and Hill down the right before playing in Hickman who squared the ball for Cartwright but another awkward bobble saw the ball blazed over the bar. Evans almost gave Barley the lead three minutes before the break, a good solo effort but his shot was dragged wide of the post. Vale did manage one real chance with a direct corner to the far post was headed just over the bar. 0-0 Half Time. Barley came out straight from kick-off and Richard Porter wasted a early second half chance. However Barley's perseverance was paid off with an hour played, Hickman picking the ball up just past the half was line and superb run was finished off with a fantastic riffled shot into the far corner of the goal from a tight angle. The game was contested well by both sides but chances were few and far between. Vale almost forced extra time after blazing the ball over the bar from three yards with there best chance of game. However in the final minutes Richard Porter reached a milestone running the ball the length of Vale's half before lobbing the ball over the onrushing keeper to score his 17th of the season and his 50th Barley Mow goal to secure Barley's place in the Semi-Final.
