Match Report
Barley went into this weeks fixture looking to improve on last weeks first victory, but knowing it could be a struggle as they were missing several key players. Full back, Westbury, Captain Sewell, Vice Captain Wollaston and Club Captain Hill missing amongst others. The game kicked off with Barley looking to keep it tight early on due to there poor record of conceding early goals. It was turned tables as Barley stuck the early blow, R Porter latched onto a poor kick out and although the keeper forced him wide it was a neat finish with his wrong foot from a tight angle. The game remained at 1-0 for the majority of the half, neither side creating may openings. Barley looked the more likely to score but only due to a poor defensive display by The Prince Of Wales back four and keeper. The best chance of the half fell to Hickman but his glancing header was saved comfortably. That was about as good as it got all afternoon for the Wales keeper as one of a number of poor goal kicks that failed to clear the eighteen yard box, never mind the halfway line finally fell to Barley striker Price, Price did the simple stuff and rounded the keeper and his finish was into an empty net. 35mins 2-0. The final minutes of the half were played out with the Wales side looking increasingly frustrated as they could only blame the referee for there poor performance. The second half started as the first finished, Wales looking aggressive and lacking discipline, and the game looked as if it was only to go one way. 7minutes into the second half a strike from Price took a wicked deflection and left the keeper helpless 3-0. Barley were cruising and were given a huge kick up the backside when two goals in 2minutes brought Wales back into the match, erratic and poor play on both goals from keeper Pickett. Barley needed to turn it on for the first time if they were now to get the win. Hickman has a shot saved on 66minutes after a impressive run and then the game was made safe by Price just a minute later. Green with a clever defence splitting pass and Price hit hard and low past the on-rushing keeper, 4-2 game over. Barley then proceeded to demolish Wales with some confident attractive play. 10minutes from time saw a inspirational run from stand in right back Shaun Porter who was pulled down in the box, penalty, Cartwright stepped up and converted with power. 2minutes later, R Porter got his second, a good ball into the box left Porter with his back to goal but a superb turn and strike beat the keeper at the near post. A fantastic afternoon, Wales gifting the first half to Barley but when the pressure was on Barley turned it on and did the business.
