Match Report.
Barley went into there 20th league game of the season needing four points from the last nine to secure second spot in Division Two. Sedgley White Lions West were the visitors to the Dormston and Barley had a point to prove after last weeks heavy defeat in the reverse fixture. Barley started game well taking control for the early part, Sedgley were second to everything, out battled and out played. However sixteen minutes in and Sedgley got a lucky break, a slip and miscontrol at the back let Sedgley in for a easy finish, thumped in the top corner of the net 0-1. Barley responded well and although Sedgley upped there game, Barley were still on time. Twentyfive minutes produced a good effort, some excellent play from Blakeway and Hickman results in a super cross-field pass that Hale controlled well before shooting just wide. Just before the half hour mark, Barley got there reward, again some good work down the right hand side by Blakeway before he hit a fantastic long angled ball over the top of the Sedgley back-line, a good first touch put Richard Porter in the clear and despite the pace of the three defenders putting the pressure on Porter finished neatly clipping the inside of the far post 1-1. Barley turned the score line in there favor four minutes later, again down the right-hand side but this time it was Cartwright hitting another long angled ball over the Sedgley back-line, Porter controlled well and hammered the finish into the bottom corner 2-1 and nothing Barley didn't deserve. Barley again got lucky to grab an equalizer two minutes before the break, some scrappy play inside the Barley penalty area saw the Barley slammed home from close range. Half Time 2-2. Sedgley came out in the second half determined to get victory and played some much better football. Barley created the first realistic chance of the second period, again Sedgley struggled with the angled pass over the top but this time Richard Porter's 59th minute lob attempt was wide of the target. It was Sedgley who then pushed themselves in front with an hour played, a cross from the right should have been cleared by three Barley players but wasn't as was met by a Sedgley head at the far post 2-3. Again it did not take long for Barley to respond, Blakeway hitting the crossbar before the ball was cleared for a corner. Cartwright whipped in the corner and defender Shaun Porter headed home from close range 3-3. Sedgley were unable to trouble Barley in the final twenty minutes as Barley looked to play out time for the draw and nearly snatched victory just minutes from time. A good through ball found substitute Hill in the clear who nicked the ball past the onrushing keeper before a desperate tackle was enough to stop Hill tapping the ball home. A superb performance and a well deserved point.
