Match Report
The match started in usual Barley Mow fashion, youth goalkeeper Shaun Pitt fumbling a cross after just 3minutes leaving an easy tap in for
Wombourne to take a 1-0 lead. It was not going to be an easy night for the keeper making his debut and it was shown when Wombourne made it2-0 just 4minutes later, Barley still to get out of there own half. Barley looked good when managing to get the ball on the deck but there were few opportunity's to do so as Wombourne dominated the early play. Cartwright was Barley's only out clause as his pace proved to hot down the left for Wombourne, and after 21minutes managed to get himself into the penalty area after dribbling the ball from his own half and was awarded a dubious penalty after his legs appeared to be caught by Wombourne's big centre half. Cartwright stepped up and just about converted the spot kick, the ball just squeezing under the keepers body. The hope of a comeback did not last long, after treatment on the field to an injured player, the ball was kicked back from Wombourne to Barley's keeper who failed to control the pass and in true "Peter Encklemen" style embarrassed himself and his team. That wasn't the end of the first half brought as it became 4-1 when Barley centre half Michael Cornaby, misplayed his pass to the feet of a Wombourne player and he found the bottom corner of the net with a serving 25yard shot. Half time couldn't come quick enough for Barley. The second half saw the introduction of forward Richard Porter and captain Liam Sewell who took the keepers jersey in true Liam Sewell style. The half started with much promise and some neat football from Barley, however they were caught out by the pace of the Wombourne striker who had been an handful all night, yet was closely marked by Westbury and he made it 5-1 with a low strike to Sewell's near post. It was to be the last goal for Wombourne though as a much improved second half display saw some solid defending, neat passing and some exciting attacking play. Barley got to grips and gave Wombourne a good work out, Shaun Porter managed to pull one back with 16minutes to go after a good though ball left him with only the keeper to beat. Mark Hill made the score line somewhat respectable with a stunning 30yard strike into the top corner with just 3minutes to go. Plenty to work on after a poor first half display but plenty of positives to take from an impressive second half.
