Match Report

Barley started the new year looking to catch up the other division two sides who were all two or three games in front. Wombourne Wanderers were the first side to visit the Dormston Centre in 2006. Barley started the game started slow as usual taking 15-20minutes to reach there pace. Wombourne were first to show signs of opening the scoring after Marson cheaply gave the ball away in his own half which put Wombourne through but the striker made it easy for keeper Pickett to save the one on one. Three minutes later and Barley found the net, Marson shooting in wild fashion from 40yards, the ball struck the crossbar and bounced down into the penalty area into the path of Bradnick who netted his first goal on his first start for Barley. Wombourne looked to attack but failed to break down the Barley back line. 24minutes produced the equalizer, Barley cleared the ball but with the ball bouncing around 30yards out the Wombourne right back sweetly struck it on the half volley and it zoomed past Pickett at the near post. Wombourne back on terms and deservidlly so, Barley needing to up the tempo. (29minutes Westbury with a trademark diving header to clear a Wombourne attack 7/10). Just past the half hour and Barley were playing some nice football and a neat one,two between Green and Evans restored Barley's lead. Green started the move as he surged forward, played the ball nicely out to the right from Evans who dumied the Wombourne left back and played the ball neatly inside back to Green who measured the finish into the bottom corner. It wasn't the end of the half yet though, just before the break Evans got himself another assist. More neat passing from Barley made it 3-1, Evans with a short lay off to Cartwright about 25yards out dead centre to goal and Cartwright struck with his left peg and the ball looped over the desparing debutant Wombourne keeper. Half time. The second half was underway with Barley fighting the downhill pitch. Barley kept Wombourne at bay and nearly extended there lead and Evans almost with a hatrick of assists. The ball was whipped in for the second following a cleared corner and Evans headed into the path of Sewell who then headed the chance over the bar. With the game seemingly rapped up at 3-1, Barley brought on attacking midfielder Hill and striker Price. Hill brought some new life to Barley as they pushed forward looking for more goals, Hill himself with a pacey long range effort that flew just wide of the far post. 83minutes and Hill had another chance to score, the ball dropping to his feet six yards out on the angle but his powerful near post strike was pushed wide. Wombourne themselves had some late attacking play with corners and loose balls but a combination of some sharp keeping from Pickett and a lack of conviction from Wombourne kept the scoreline the same. Barley wrapped up all the points in the 90th minutes a n excellent run down the left from Cartwright sent him into the penalty area and his low drive was parried into the path of substitute price who slamned home from close range. Another good performance from the Barley lads.

League Tables.
