Match Report

A wet afternoon at the Dormston was game that both Barley and Darby End required three points from. Barley had no points since there opening day victory against Red Star and Darby End were rooted to the bottom of the table without a point to there name. Barley hoped that there fortunes had turned when they took the lead after 2minutes, Evans played a dangerous high ball into the back post and when Darby End failed to head clear Barley forward Richard Porter pounced to knock the ball home 1-0. Darby almost equalizer just a minute later when they had the ball in the net but the linesman was on hand with his flag in the air and the goal was ruled out for offside. The game was contested well in midfield both teams out battling each other resulting in little goalmouth action. Westbury had a wild long range effort saved after 17minutes but that was a close as they got as Darby End seemed to get the breaks. Darby got there equalizer just before the half hour after Barley failed to clear the ball effectively on four or five occasions in and around the box and a loose ball was riffled low into the bottom of the Barley net from 25yards. 1-1. Some excentric keeping from Russell in the Barley goal presented Darby with a chance to go in front but Shaun Porter was on hand to clear off the line 5minutes before the break. Right on half time Darby took the lead, a routine ball was poorly headed by Michael Cornaby which set away the Darby forward who some how evaded Shaun Porters challenge and roll the ball past Russell, half time 1-2. The second half was more of a battle in the midfield that the first with both sides failing to create chances. The game became more open towards the end as Barley pushed to find a way through stretching the defence and midfield. Barleys real chances to equalizer were produced in the final ten minutes with Cartwright gitting the post and Green shooting just past the post and also having a close range riffled effort superbly saved by the Darby keeper. To sum up, a much improved performance despite the result, I am sure Barley with turn the corner soon if we can just keep playing as well as today.
