Match Report

Barley's first league match in a month saw them take on fellow Beacon Cup Group A opponents Hill Top Rangers. Barley's form in the league had been poor so far and 4th place Hill Top should provide a stern test. Barley could not have started the game any worse, 8minutes in and keeper Russell instead of clearing a ball down by the right corner flag attempted to take on the Hill Top forward and was tackled leaving the an easy finish into an empty net 1-0. Barley almost equalized on 12mintes a Cartwright corner was headed goal bound by Bradnick but was cleared off the line by a Hill Top defender. Barley's start got even worse on 14minutes a Hill Top corner was whipped into the near post and Hayward failed to clear and the ball creaped into the net 2-0. Barley were not completely out of the match and in the 19th minute Hickman powered forward to provide a good pass but Hill struck the resulting shot wide. The match got even worse for Barley as Hill Top took a 3-0 lead, this time a ball slipped through the middle of the back-line as the Hill Top forward ran onto the pass before rounding the keeper and again hitting an empty net. Barley gave themselves a glimmer of hope just a minute later, again a Cartwright corner down the left this time met by early substitute Shaun Porter whose header crashed against the bar and back to his feet for him to finish on the half volley. All hope was diminished though just before half time as a thunderous strike from 25yards found the top corner of the net and left the score 4-1 Half Time. The second half was very much a formality, Hill Top happy to play the game out and Barley never really got to grips to create much threat. Hill Top finished the game off with a fifth goal in the 75th minute after confusion between Russell and Shaun Porter left Hill Top to finish in another empty net.
