Match Report
Barley's first pre-season game was a regular friendly against Walsall based outfit Myvod Inn. The surface was dry and hard despite the mornings downfall and both teams took time to adjust to the balls bounce. Myvod starting the brighter of the two sides pinning Barley back. 17minutes into the game and a communication error between Bradnick and debut keeper Chad Russell saw Bradnick nod the ball past his keeper and into the net to give the visitors a lead. Three minutes later and Barley could have so easily have equalized, Hickman high up the pitch put the Myvods last man under pressure , Hickman winning the ball and producing himself a fantastic one on one situation with the opposition keeper but Hickman dragged the shot wide. Barley were making life difficult for themselves when in the 23rd minute Cornaby played a ball back to keeper Russell who mis-kicked but worked hard to get back to make a goaline tackle on the Myvod forward. Barley looked good in spells when they got the ball on the deck, but Myvod had the edge in this first half and got there second just before the break. Bradnick again involved giving the way a freekick which was swung in and met by the head of the man Bradnick was marking, not a good afternoon for the experienced centre half. Barley came close as the whistle ended the first half, Shaun Porter heading a Cartwright corner just over the bar. Half Time 0-2. The second half did not look to get much better when substitute Blakeway made a clumsy challenge in the box giving Myvod a penalty kick and consequently a 0-3 lead. Barley upped the game for the final half an hour looking confident and dangerous going forward and there attacking play paid off in the 73rd minute. Hill crossed from the left and Richard Porter knocked the ball down for Chris Hayward to convert his first goal in his second spell for the club 1-3. Hill was again involved ten minutes from time as his corner provided a close range opportunity but another substitute Westbury headed over the bar. Barley made the score respectable in the final minutes when record goalscorer Richard Porter slammed the ball home from close range following a goalmouth scramble. Final score 2-3, a goal test and workout.
