Match Report
Barley returned to the Dormston for there only home fixture in seven matches to face a Tipton side top of the table and undefeated in the league. Barley still looking for form and a change of fortunes battled hard in the first half and played some nice football although most of it was in there own half. Barley got the first shot in of the afternoon after good build up play from Blakeway and Richard Porter saw Porter shoot straight at the keeper. Tipton almost got a lucky lead on 11minutes when a left footed corner was swung in and beat everyone before rattling the far post, the loose ball was cleared by Shaun Porter. Tiptons constant attacking play finally got its reward 26minutes in, some neat quick passing in the final third left Barley in a tangle and a free shot inside the box which was drilled low past reserve keeper Sewell. 0-1. Barley refused to lie down though and continued to work hard and created a good opportunity in the 37th minute, Evans switching the play from left to right to put Hill away but his early cross thrashed across the box evading Porter and Blakeway. Eventually Barley did get reward for there perseverance, Hill with a corner from the left whipped into the near post to find a powerful header from Hickman which gave Barley an equalizer with the aid of the crossbar 1-1. Half Time. Barley came out into the second period confident and with a feel good factor that had been missing so far this season. But suffered an early blow when the assistant referee missed an obvious offside inside the box and an easy finish restored Tiptons lead on 49minutes. Again Barley needed to fight back and again it was Hill who provided the killer ball, 56minutes in and a superb run down the left and an excellent angled ball over the last man put Richard Porter in the clear who finished like a true striker should 2-2. Barley had the fight and the will to win but struggled to get it going again as the rest of the half became a start stop affair with both teams giving away silly free kicks producing five needless yellow cards. It had been a wonderful football match with some good passing and attacking moves from both sides but it was spoilt with two minutes to go, one offside was ignored and then after consultation between the referee and his assistant a second flag overruled, a penalty was awarded to Tipton for a nonexistent push in the box. Tipton converted the penalty and took all three points. A big well done to all the Barley lads, a top performance.
