Match Report

More harsh rain during the week put this weekends fixture in doubt but the Dormston Centre pitch once again stood up to the test of the whether and the game went ahead. Barley with just one defeat in the last nine were expecting all three points against visiting side Wednesbury but Wednesbury showed they had other idea's during the course of the game. The first half was one of few chances and saw possession given away cheaply by both sides. Wednesbury contested the ball well in the air and looked the stronger of the two sides despite no real attempts on goal. Wednesbury's young guns pace tested the experienced legs of the Barley back three but Sewell was sharp and quick off his line to sweep up at the back on numerous occasions. Barley came the closest to find the net 11minutes but Evans effort was cleared off the line. Half Time 0-0. Both teams would be expecting to create more during the second period and it was Wednesbury who drew first blood. Hill controlled a ball inside the penalty area and let the ball run back through to Sewell who picked to ball up and the referee awarded and indirect free kick for a back-pass. Wednesbury's effort was initially cleared but the rebound fell to Wednesbury's Liam Gough on the edge of the eighteen yard box and his strike found the back of the net with the aid of a Shaun Porter deflection, 0-1. Barley had plenty of time to pull it back and still felt confident they could given some of there recent comebacks. Barley started to play some football and looked brighter though not a great deal brighter. Eventually it was former Trysull striker Michael Freeman who got Barley's equalizer with a powerful near post strike, controversy followed as the referee overruled an offside flag against Freeman and the goal was given, -1. Both teamed continued to work and look for a winner and not before too long it was last weeks hatrick hero Blakeway who popped up from ten yards out to smash a loose ball home for his 11th of the season, 2-1. Wednesbury could have scored again but it Liam Sewell again looking switching on who made the Goalkeeper role look easy as he kept Barley in the game. Bad luck on the day for Wednesbury who certainly deserved something from the game but Barley won't be complaining. Again a strong keeper and clinical finishing the deciding factors for Barley's victory.
