Match Report
Barleys second game of the season saw a trip to former ground Windsor Avenue to play Windsor Old Boys. The game was the only tie in the first round of the Lester Charity Cup, a competition that Barley have never won in and this afternoons fixture was heavily balanced in Windsors favour. Barley were missing key players in Sewell, Hill, Hayward, Price, Green and Westbury resulting in centre back Bradnick taking the field carrying an injury and Hickman and Hale made there first starts of the season. Windsor got the game under way and dominated the half keeping Barley pinned back. Despite Windsor's dominatation Barley defended well and kept Windsor's chances to efforts outside the box. Windsor converted there only real chance 16minutes in after a short corner was played into the box and Barley failed to make a challenge on the Windsor forward who drilled the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. Barley's best chance of the half came in the 43rd minute, Cartwright crossing for captain Wollaston who made a good run into the box but his header was just over the bar. Half Time 1-0. The second half produced more of the same, Windsor dominating and Barley stuggling to get there passing going. Windsor edged closer and closer to a second killer goal Barley's backline grew tied losing Bradnick injury. As the game went on and Barley's hopes dwindled slowly away and disappeared in the 85th minute when Windsor played a ball through and despite the away sides Linesmans flag , onrushing keeper Russell pulled down the Windsor forward in the box and was consequently sent off. Stand in keeper and player/manager Stuart Cornaby's only action was to pick the ball out of the net from the converted penalty. Overhall Windsor will be satisfied with the result but Barley Mow should look at there performances in disappointment.
