Match Report

Barley's fourth match of the season saw a trip to Aldridge based side Great Barr Galaxy. A dull windy afternoon provided the setting for Barley's injury hit squad. Captain Darren Wollaston and Goalkeeper Andy Bishop were added to the list of absentee's, however Barley welcomed back Chad Russell between the sticks defender Michael Cornaby. Division One bottom club started very much the brighter of the two sides and a similar first half hour to that of the AC Harbourne away match evolved. Heavy pressure a great belief and passion was two much for the Barley side to cope with as they found themselves 3-0 down with 35minutes gone. Maybe it was Galaxy taking there foot of the gas at 3-0 that gave Barley some hope as the last 10minutes of the first half saw Barley attack with promise, the ball presented dangerously inside the Galaxy penalty area, Richard Porter finishing the pick of the chances shooting wide from 12yards out on a left angle. Half Time 3-0. The last ten minutes of the first half have give Barley's hope and despite the scoreline Barley believed that there was still something in the game for them. A harder working attitude and some neater and more attacking football saw Barley onto top and they pulled a goal back in dubious fashion. A pass back by Galaxy was closed down by Barley striker Blakeway who blocked the keeper clearance and knovked the ball into the empty net 3-1. The game now really opened up and Barley played some good through balls unfortunatley running through to the keeper. Much barley pressure payed off when Blakeway grabbed a second still with 20minutes remaining. But as Barley pushed for the equalizer there were hit with a sucker punch and 4-2 with 9minutes to go was just two big of a mountain to climb. The result see Galaxy off the bottom and replaced by Barley. A short league season means Barley need to turn things round quickly.
