Match Report
Barleys first official game back at Windsor Avenue saw the visit of Phoenix Youth. The game saw a promising start as Phoenix looked uncomfortable going forward and Barley were in control with some simple and effective passing and soon had the lead sixteen minutes in Gaz played a ball across the goal from the left and good pressure in the box from Mark forced the Phoenix defender to turn the ball into his own net. Barley then doubled there lead ten minutes later when Gaz turned the ball home after the keeper parried a Barley's original shot. Barley were cruising and added a third six minutes before the break, Gaz again involved this time laying off for Stez who struck sweetly from twenty yards.
Half Time 3-0.
The second half was a sloppy affair from Barley's point of view; again Barley looked comfortable with Phoenix failing to threaten. Barley themselves wasted a number of chances to put the game to bed, as time went on Phoenix grew and Barley's passing fell by the wayside. With twenty five minutes left of the clock Phoenix pulled one back with some poor Barley defending down the left. A second with twelve too go and finally an equalizer three minutes before the end saw the game finish a draw. An extremely poor second period in all departments, Barley failing to take there second half chances, have the ball away cheaply in midfield a failure to make a tackle or block in defence and some uncertain and unconfident goalkeeping, plenty to improve on.
Final Score 3-3. |
