Holme St Pauls Church at Causewayhead was opened in 1850 to cope with the growing population of the rural area around and including Silloth. It falls within the old parish of Holme Cultram. Silloth opened its own church(Christchurch) in 1873 but as it was in the centre of the town, it had no burial ground of its own, and continued to use St Pauls for burials after that date. So while the number of Baptisms and Marriages at St Pauls declined after 1873, the burials continued in ever growing numbers until the churchyard was full in the early 1900’s and a cemetery, which is still in use today, was opened across the road from the church at Causewayhead
