PGL Benevolent Board

Bath and District PGL

The Board is empowered by PGL to manage the Bath & District PGL Benevolent Fund and make informed decisions under the delegation as a sub-Committee of PGL in its management and distribution of grant aid.

It meets at the Kings Head, Weston, on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm (or time as announced).

The Benevolent Board 2011 President is David Bishop.

The Board operates as a sub-Committee of the Provincial Grand Lodge and is governed by its Bye-Laws in conjunction with Rule 121 in the yellow rule book. ML Secretaries will have copies of the Bye-Laws which are not available to individual members.

PGL and it's Board are there to assist Brothers of the Province and their dependents. Applications for grant aid can be made via Minor Lodges through their Benevolent Board Delegate.

Grant Application forms are available to ML Secretaries from PG Sec.

Applications for assistance need to be with PG Sec within 9 days of the next Board meeting so as to be placed on the Agenda.

ML Delegates are elected each December to the Benevolent Board. They should attend each PGL Benevolent Board meeting to present any of their ML applications and be ready to answer any question from Board voting members. Unless they are ex-Officio with voting rights (Rule 121g) they cannot speak or vote on any other item of business.

Cases can be presented to the Board on exceptional circumstances by the ML Delegate. Under these exceptional circumstances, a form may not be required, although the Delegate is expected to describe the facts of the case that bring it into an "exceptional cases" category. This type of case can be as broad as it is narrow and the Delegate is expected to give a good representation as to the emergency or urgency of the grant application. Cases may be awarded payment as deemed fit by the Board and there are no limits to applications submitted.

All grant applications are considered on their own individual merit by the Benevolent Board voting members (Rule 121g applies).
