The Tests

 

There are a number of parts to passing your test:

  • Theory Test (£30.00)
    • Hazard Perception Test
  • Practical Driving Test (£56.50)
    • Show Me / Tell Me (click here for a list of possible questions you may be asked)

You need to have passed the theory and hazard perception test at the same time before you can apply for your practical test.

 

 

Theory Test

 

From 3rd September 2007 the test consists of 50 multiple choice questions. To pass you must answer 43 or more of the questions correctly within a 57 minute time limit.The questions can be on any topic to do with driving.

 

 

Hazard Perception Test

 

This is the second part of your theory test which consists of 14 one minute video clips which youhave to spot the developing hazards. There are 15 hazards you have to identify and you can score up to 5 points for each hazard, and one of the clips has a double hazard to identify, and the faster you identify the hazard which affects the driver the higher your score will be, you have to score 44 or more marks out of a possible 75 to pass. Practical Driving Test

 

This is when you take you practical test you will first have to pass your eyesight test which involves reading a number plate from 20.5 metres from a stationary vehicle with the old-style number plate, if it has the new-style number plate it has to be read from a distance of 20 metres. The new style number plates being the ones which start with two letters i.e. DA56 ABC.

 

If you can read the number plate correctly you can proceed with the rest of the test. Then you will be asked to answer two questions, one show me and one tell me which are based on vehicle safety checks. And then show you can drive competently and safely for a duration lasting approximately 40 minutes in different road conditions you will be asked in that duration to complete two manoeuvres. To pass you will have to complete the test without making a serious or dangerous fault and less than 15 minor errors.
