Burnley Corporation, Nelson Corporation & BCN Vehicles. (1924 - 1974)

AEC Regents - A line up of the eight new buses purchased in 1932 by Burnley Corporation for the conversion of the Harle Syke - Rosegrove route from trams to buses. Believed to be the first day of operation. 

Burnley Centre c.1925  - featuring Burnley Corporation trams in the centre of town.

Burnley Centre c.1930  - This picture shows  no.12, CW 7650, a 1927 Leyland Lion PLSC1, rebodied in 1930, en route to Rosegrove via Sandygate.

Burnley Centre c.1933  - featuring Leyland LT2's or AEC Regals on the left and a 1931 AEC Regal on the right. The bus following the tram is probably  Ribble.

Burnley Centre c. 1934  - with only mainline trams still running a solitary tram replacement TD3 is seen on the left, possibly no. 89 the first to wear the new BCN livery. In the centre is 1930 Leyland LT2 no. 27. The bus on the right is probably a Hebble going to Halifax.

Burnley Centre 1934  -  a copy of a poster produced by Burnley & Pendle Transport featuring a cross section of BCN vehicles in 1934.

Burnley centre 1935 (1) - featuring one of the new Leyland TD4c buses closely followed by two of the AEC Regents originally purchased for tram replacement.

Burnley Centre 1935 (2) - A new all Leyland TD4c following an English Electric TD3 ( could be 83). AEC Regal in the right. Note policeman on point duty!

Burnley Centre 1936 (1) - Now the trams have gone all buses are displaying route numbers.

Burnley Centre c.1937   - featuring BCN TD3 (no.88 front left) & TD4 Titans and a Lion LT7, a Ribble TD4 and in the centre possibly a Hebble single deck.

Burnley Centre c.1951 - On the left Leyland TD5 no. 154, on the right Leyland PD2/3 "White Lady" no. 183 with a PD2/1 behind. 

Burnley centre c.1958 - Seen waiting at the traffic lights at the junction with Manchester Road is no.139, a wartime Guy Arab rebodied by East Lancs.

1 - VCW 1L, 1973 Leyland Leopard PSU3B/4R with Duple Dominant body. In Croft St. Burnley on route X28 to Colne, Limited Stop. The first coach to be operated by BCN.

2 - CW 5108, 1924 Leyland A13 with Knape B25RP body, used on the very first Burnley Corporation bus route from Abel Street to Burnley Cattle Market. In original condition before modification.

3 - CW 5109, 1924 Leyland A13 with modified bodywork in BCN livery, pictured at Queensgate.

3 - FTC 922, 1943 Bedford OWB with SMT utility B32F body, in Burnley Cattle Market bound for Barley via Newchurch. (Former Barley Omnibus Co vehicle).

8 - CW 5639, Nelson Corporation 1925 Leyland A13 with Leyland B26F body. Seen showing route D, Marsden Hall.

10 -  HG 9651, 1948 Leyland PS1 with Brush B35F body. Converted to front entrance for o.m.o. in 1960. Seen here in preservation on the "Country Run".

18 - TF 2230, 1930 Leyland LT2 in BCN livery  with Leyland B32F bodywork. Ex. Nelson Corporation, pictured in the Market Square, Nelson.

22 - HHG 22, 1959 Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/1 with East Lancs B43F body, at Burnley Bus Station on route 29 to Sycamore Avenue

36 - HG 1022, 1931 AEC Regent with Roe H28/23C body. After withdrawal from service in 1945 being used for recovery training in Queensgate depot yard.

37 - BHG 756, 1953 Leyland PS2/14 with East Lancs B39F body. Converted to front entrance and seen here in preservation on our "Country Run".

41 - HG 1027, 1932 AEC Regent/Roe. Showing the centre entrance without doors, the absence of which lead to the term 'pneumonia boxes'.

41 - CHG 541, 1954 Leyland PS2/14 with East Lancs. B39F body. Seen here in preservation at Lathalmond.

44 - HG 1220, 1932 AEC Regent with Brush H28/23C body, (new to Burnley Corporation for tram replacement) at Duke Bar. Pictured in BCN livery.

48 - DHG 48, 1955 Leyland PS2/14 with East Lancs. B39R body, in Chapel St. Burnley on route 61to Nelson via Marsden Cross. In original condition with rear entrance and side destination indicator.

50 - HG 1226, 1932 Crossley Condor with Brush H25/23C bodywork. The chassis of this bus and its sister 51 were sold to Rochdale Corporation in 1936 and the bodies transferred to new 50/1 AEC Regents.

55 - NHG 555, 1963 Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/11 with East Lancs B43F body, in Queensgate Depot yard. Showing route 71 Waidshouse Road Circular. In Burnley & Pendle Joint Transport livery.

200 - AHG 347, 1951 Guy Arab with East Lancs H31/26R body. An interesting rear view taken at the Station Hotel parking area in Nelson. This bus was exhibited at the 1950 Commercial Motor Show.

210 - AHG 649, 1951 Guy Arab with East Lancs H31/26R body, entering Yorkshire Street from St James' St. Burnley on route 30 to Towneley via Todmorden Road. This bus was one of seven Guys which had their destination displays converted  similarly to Leyland PD2/12's 219 - 231.

219 - DHG 219, 1955 Leyland PD2/12 with East Lancs H34/26R body, leaving Burnley Cattle Market on route 227 for Clitheroe.

259 - FHG 159E, 1967 Leyland PD2A/27/East Lancs. Leaving Burnley Bus Station One of the last batch of front engined buses purchased by BCN/B&P.

Inside Queensgate depot sometime during the 1960's. The two men are believed to be Charlie Wilson and Rennie Whipp.
