you are here: Home - Newsletter - April 2015 -  Lake Meadows

Our first event of the year will be the Great Lake Race on Easter Monday April 6th at 2pm, with registration from 1.30pm. Entry forms and rules are on our website. Do make a model boat and join us in racing across the lake.
After much work in awful weather conditions Neil Bruce, our sculptor, is finally nearing completion of the Wizard and Dragon. An official unveiling ceremony will take place on Saturday 23rd May at 11am, in conjunction with representatives from the Essex County Council Community Initiative Fund who have funded this project. We very much hope that lots of children will come to join in with us as we welcome these magnificent figures to Lake Meadows.
We are very pleased to announce that this years’ Jazz in the Park has been generously sponsored by Billericay District Residents’ Association. This will help to ensure that the event is even more successful than previous years! Once again Nimrod Margalit and his band will entertain us and any local musicians that wish to join in will be very welcome – just let us know! The ever-professional Daisy Bowlers will also be in attendance. The date for this event is Saturday 18th July from 4.30 to 7pm.
You may notice some activity in the small hut near to the statues. We are beavering away to turn this into a FoLM Information Centre in the near future.
The BDC Parks Team will shortly be starting work on the Wildflower Walk that proved to be so popular last summer. After the seeds are sown we will be relying on the fantastic scarecrows, supplied by local families and schools, to protect them as they germinate and grow.

The photo is of Mae Saunders and her mum and Rob Baker Basildon BC Parks Supervisor. May and her friend Emma Shelley built the scarecrow who is called Gladioli, and she was the winner!
