BILLERICAY CARDS FOR GOOD CAUSES, a multi-charity Christmas card shop, will continue selling Christmas cards from its stall in Billericay Library until December 15th. The shop, staffed by local volunteers, is open Mondays to Saturdays from 10am to 4pm and 10am to 1pm on Thursdays.

 

Charity Lunch at the Methodist Church, Western Road in aid of Chernobyl Children Lifeline.  On Saturday 12th January from 12.30 to 2.00pm, a snack lunch and drink for £3.00. The Billericay Link of Chernobyl Children Lifeline provides a month's holiday in Billericay during the summer for children suffering from the effects of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster in 1986.

 

FREE. HAVE-A-GO MORNING OF MORRIS DANCE. 5 JANUARY 2008 from 10.00am to12.30pm at the Recreation Rooms, Billericay High St.  Aged between 9 and 90?  Male with 2 legs?  Need to work off that Xmas tummy?  Ever fancied a go at Morris dancing?  This is your chance with no strings attached.  Mayflower Morris Men will be hosting a have-a-go morning of dance for complete beginners with two left feet - no pressure - totally free - just for fun - bring your friends.  Refreshments.  Tel. 01268 710709.  www.mayflowermorris.com

  

Wednesday, 19th December at 7 p.m. The Friends of St Mary Magdalen Church, High Street, Billericay welcome you to their traditional Candlelit Carol Service followed by Mulled Wine and Mince Pies. A perfect beginning to Christmas week!   Entrance is free but donations to Friends of St Mary Magdalen will be welcomed.

  

Sunnymede Infant School, Mons Avenue invitee you to their Christmas Fete on Monday 17th December 2007 from 3.15pm. .All the usual attractions (Santa, refreshments, tombola and games, raffle etc).

Some “special” workshops in Stock. This year there are to be three evening workshops in December to help you tackle an extra-special design to give your home decorations that little extra “something” that will give you and your guests especial pleasure. 

Wednesdays:              5th December   7.45 for 8 pm           Gill Rolfe – something trendyish!

                                   19th      “                      “                     Anne Leeder – a Christmas Basket                               (possibly big enough for the hearth but we can scale down too)
Each of these will cost £12 and they are intended as individual evenings and not a mini-course. Refreshments will be served. You will be advised in advance of the flowers/foliage/containers and other bits and pieces you may need to bring along.
Day Workshop:           Wednesday 12th December, 9.45am for 10am till about 3.30pm. With Eileen Marsh.
                                   A light buffet lunch at the hall, refreshments also will be provided.
Christmas Comes and with it some designs featuring bark, and modern glassware. Cost: £30, with details again provided, of the things you’ll need to bring with you. NORSEY WOOD SOCIETY will be holding an Open Meeting on Monday January 28th 2008 at the Day Centre, Chantry Way commencing at 7.45pm. Following a short AGM Bill Godsafe will give an illustrated talk on Hanningfield Nature Reserve. All are welcome. For additional details please ring 01277 653853.

 

BILLERICAY & DISTRICT PHILATELIC SOCIETY On Thursday December 6th at 8.00pm a Christmas Special Meeting awaits members of the Society in The Fold, Laindon Road.

  

BILLERICAY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. On Monday December 17th at 8.00pm in the Day Centre, Chantry Way the Society will hold a Christmas Party for members only.

  

THE HOWARD WALLACE CHORALE will present a Christmas concert entitled “Christmas Celebration” in the Bishop Hill Adult Education College on Sunday December 16 commencing at 2.30pm. The Chorale will sing a wide selection of Christmas carols, some well known favourites with audience participation, and some more specialised for the choir which includes A Christmas Fantasy, an arrangement of carols for chorus and brass band by Gordon Langford. (sadly no brass band). There will be the well loved arrangement by John Rutter of O be joyful in the Lord, Purcell’s Sound the Trumpet (for ladies’ voices). And of course Howard Wallace’s wonderful arrangements for the chorale of White Christmas and Walking in the Air: and many, many more.

Members of the BILLERICAY CERAMIC CIRCLE will celebrate Christmas on Monday 10 December at 7.30pm with a party in the Day Centre, Chantry Way.

 

BILLERICAY ARCHAELOGICAL & HISTORICAL SOCIETY. On Monday December 10th in The Fold, Laindon Road at 8.00pm Mr David Possee will give a talk entitled “The Courtauld Dynasty”

  

BILLERICAY AFTERNOON W.I. Members will be having a Christmas Lunch accompanied by light entertainment on Wednesday December 12th at 2.00pm in the W.I. Hall., St Edith’s Lane.

 

BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION. In spite of competition from the fireworks in Lake Meadows the Quiz held in Mayflower High School, organised by the BHF, raised £945.49, the second largest amount raised to date. The organisers are grateful to the 175 players who took part and made the event so successful.

 

BILLERICAY CHAMBER of TRADE and COMMERCE - LATE NIGHT OPENING IN BILLERICAY

Shops in Billericay High Street will be staying open to 8.00pm on Wednesday 19th December and Saturday 22nd December. Chairman of the Chamber, Mr Trevor Draper, invites readers of The Resident to visit the High Street on these days and make the most of the town’s unique shops.

  

BILLERICAY DANCING CLUB – established 35 years. The club meets every Wednesday evening in the Main Hall, Buttsbury Infants School from 8 to 10pm during school terms. Lovely music from strict tempo top bands - ballroom, Latin American and some sequence dancing. Entrance fee £3 each which includes tea, coffee and biscuits.  Annual membership fee is £1. Everyone is welcome. Plenty of free parking.

 

Billericay Musical Theatre Group will appear at the Civic Theatre, Chelmsford from Jan 29th to February 2nd, 2008, performing the sixties smash hit, Sweet Charity, including hits like “If My Friends Could See Me Now”, “Hey, Big Spender” and “Rhythm Of Life”. The show starts at 7.45 pm nightly with an additional show on Saturday at 2pm. Ticket prices are only £12 (£11 concessions) and are available at the box office on 01245 606505. Book early to avoid disappointment.
