As the year draws to an end, the Friends are reflecting on our achievements this year and starting to plan new projects for the coming year to enhance our wonderful park.

One of our main projects this year has been the refurbishment of the east end of the lake, jointly funding provided by the Parks department and the Friends, assisted by the Co-op Community Fund, thanks to people like you! The other new area is the grasses and rocks area by the old duck-feeding station, funded by Greggs (the bakers) Environment Fund enabling us to provide a water-fowl interpretation board. The final project for the year has been completed at the Hillhouse entrance gate, where, funded by donations from two generous local neighbours, shrubs have been planted to make this entrance more welcoming.

Our projects for next year will focus mainly on encouraging the diversity of wildlife throughout the park, with improvements in both the woodland and the conservation area. Further interpretative boards are being planned, along with our usual events for the year ahead.

None of this can be achieved without the dedication and amazing hard work of our team of volunteers, along with the excellent rapport that we have with the park’s managers and on-site team.

We hope that, when you are making your New Year resolutions, more of you, who love and use the park, will consider joining the Friends as members, so we have a strong voice in making proposals and gaining more funding. Membership is only 5 a year, for your entire household, and will bring you many benefits! Not only will you be supporting all the work that we do, but you will know, every time that you visit, that you have helped towards improving the park. If you are able to offer any help yourself, you will be very welcome. There, that’s sorted your New Year resolutions!

Now let’s all enjoy Christmas. We hope to see you at our Carols in the Park on December 16th at 4pm, when free mulled wine and festive food will be provided. Bring a torch!
