Basildon Hospital

All beds in Basildon University Hospital are now electronically controlled. More than £1 million has been spent, in the past three years, replacing every bed and mattress in the hospital. Over the last two days a military style operation has seen the final delivery of 205 new beds, with patients being transferred one at a time from an old bed straight into a new one.

The new beds can be lowered or raised, go into an armchair position and be used to help patients stand, additionally they have ready-fitted side rails to enhance patient safety. Some include scales so patients can be weighed. They also give patients more control as they can use the hand-held electronic controls to position their bed for their own comfort.

South West Essex NHS funded the purchase of the beds, which cost a total of £270,000.

Planning

Your chance to influence planning policy in the town

A questionnaire prepared by the Billericay Design Statement Association was included in the October issue of "The Resident".

Analysis of completed questionnaires has commenced, and results show the majority of respondents are in favour of the proposals derived from the previous survey.  Residents who have not yet done so are requested to return questionnaires to The Loft, Crown Yard, High Street, Billericay, CM12 9BX so that their views on the future of the town are reflected in the final recommendations.  Alternatively, the questionnaire can be viewed and submitted via the BDSA web site www.billericaydsa.org.uk.

More community support will give the Design Statement more weight.
