Moving On

Stepping Forward is a social group giving support to families in the community, who have suffered bereavement.  On the first Saturday of each month the group meets informally in The Village Bar And Grill, 120, High Street, Billericay (next to Waitrose) from 10.0 a.m. - 12.0 noon.  It is a friendly group of mixed ages and gives an opportunity to meet other people who can relate to your
situation.  Different events held are quiz nights, race nights, ten pin bowling and visits to local restaurants.  Come along on a Saturday morning for a coffee - you are very welcome to bring a friend or family member on your first visit.  The group is open to both men and women of all ages.  The next meeting will be held on Saturday, 6th February.  If you would like any further details, please contact Linda on 07899 818115

 Fairtrade Fortnight

Fairtrade logoFairtrade  Fortnight 2010 will run from 22 February till 7 March. The theme for the Fortnight this year is the BIG SWAP
and the nation is being asked to swap their cuppa for a Fairtrade cuppa. Ideally we’d like all tea to be Fairtrade, but as the five biggest brands have 72% of the UK’s tea market, focusing on those brands is a good place to start. So, that’s Tetleys, PG Tips, Typhoo, Twinings and Yorkshire Tea. These companies are not being accused of bad practice - in fact all of them have taken steps aimed at ensuring conditions for suppliers improve. This has been a welcome step, but only goes so far. So far none has taken the step of converting all their tea to Fairtrade. Now is the time to take the next step. You can email any or all of the five big tea brands on  www.makeitfair.org.uk/take-action  to ask them to Make it Fair or come to our Big Brew Event in The Reading Rooms on Saturday 20th February between 10am and 12noon where we will have postcards addressed to the big five tea companies that you can sign and we will send off. And of course a chance to try Fairtrade tea and other Fairtrade products as well.
