Life with the Lions
Well, it’s certainly been getting a bit chilly around
here since I last wrote. It’s lovely to look out on a white blanket of snow and
sugar frosted trees from the comfort of a warm room, but a different matter if
you need to venture out. Unless you are
8 years old with a brand new sledge that is.
Due to the weather, this is the first time in over 25 years that the
Lions have not been able to bring Santa’s sleigh round on all published nights.
We are sorry to those of you who did not get to see Santa in his sleigh this
year, but I am sure that you all appreciate that safety must come first. It is
not only the Sleigh on the slippery roads that we need to consider but more
importantly the safety of the children who come running out to see Santa on the
slippery pavements. Not to mention the sanity of the parents who would have to
try and convince their excited children why it is too dangerous for them to go
out. And what if Santa should slip and
was late with his present delivery? Now that wouldn’t do would it.?
The sleigh did make it out on 8 evenings and also made
3 supermarket collections. Unfortunately we had to cancel 4 evenings and a day
time collection. However, thanks to your generosity we were still able to raise
£4,699 for good causes.
We now need to put our thinking caps on to come up with a few substitute
fund raising events to help make up for the snow, so if you have any ideas of
events that you would like to see organised (preferably not weather
dependantJ), then please drop a mail to or post a comment on our blog
Just a reminder that our next fundraising event is on Saturday, 6th
February at Emmanuel Church Hall. Lions
are organising a Gourmet Charity Quiz in collaboration with Taste Italia, the
Italian cookery experts of Ramsden Heath. A sample tasting of various
delicacies of Italian cuisine will form the basis for the questions to follow.
Tickets are £10.00 per person and can be obtained from Lions on 0845 833 9849
or by emailing italia@billericaylions.
Wishing you a happy, prosperous, and slightly warmer 2010 from your
friends at the Lions Club of Billericay.
