The Choir For All Seasons presents “Everyone A Character” - fascinating portraits in words and music, on Saturday July 5 at 8pm in the Canon Roche Social Centre, Laindon Road, Billericay.
Everyone knows characters who have impressed themselves on our memory, perhaps a school teacher with unforgettable mannerisms, an old lady who was always strangely dressed or a larger than life personality with a huge laugh.
The Choir has assembled a gallery of such characters for your enjoyment, mainly (though not all) fictional, some in music, some in verse or prose. Many are a bit eccentric, but life would be much duller without such people and there is more than representative from the animal kingdom too. Here is a selection to tickle your appetite:
The doctor who nearly drowned in a pothole in Gloucester.
The waltzing elephant.
The daydreaming shepherdess who suddenly found she’d lost all her flock.
An Egyptian beauty who caused havoc in the Roman Empire.
The eccentric founder of the Glyndebourne Festival.
A Chaucerian character who stoutly defended her controversial view on
marriage.
The who regularly travelled on the overnight express to Scotland.
Come, enjoy music by Pachelbel, Aaron Copland, Benjamin Britten, Percy French, Nicholas Maw and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Tickets £6 (concessions £5) are available from Presence in Billericay High Street, from choir members, or by ringing 01277 656935.
