Summer Fete

Step by Step Pre School (Billericay) is holding it's annual Summer Fete on Saturday 11th July from 1-3pm at Christchurch, Perry Street, Billericay. Fun for all the family including face painting, tombolas, bouncy castle, raffle, refreshments and much more. Children and OAPs free, adults £1.

QUEST SEEKERS

THE SUMMER READING CHALLENGE, SATURDAY 18th JULY TO SATURDAY 5th SEPTEMBER.  Go on a quest at Billericay Library this summer. The adventure will start at Billericay Library on the 18th July. Children can complete the quest by reading books and collecting stickers – including some which are scratch and sniff to discover the Golden Book. On the way they will have to find the firebird and creep past a dragon’s lair All those adventurers who complete the challenge will receive a Quest seekers medal. Children of any age can take part. Just bring your library card, haven’t got one? Why not join, it’s free and it’s fun. Children can join Quest Seekers any time the library is open between the above dates. For older children aged 10 and above, there is a separate activity called Fantasy Worlds, participants can read books and find information to solve puzzles and be rewarded with a special prize. Going on holiday? Then why not join early on Saturday 11th July. When there will be special Quest Seekers activities. For more information phone 01277 624624.
 

Music in the Cathedral

Romantic Music
Billericay Choral Society Presents An Evening of Romantic Music at
7.45pm on Saturday 18th July 2009
In the United Reformed Church, Chapel Street, Billericay. This concert will feature music inspired by love throughout the centuries. Come along and feel the glow of romance with us. The programme features folk songs, madrigals and music from Purcell, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Simon & Garfunkel

The Belvedere Music Bar
Every Tuesday at The Belvedere in Harding Elms Road, Crays Hill, Billericay, Professional Musicians perform for your entertainment. It could be a quartet or larger, very often with a singer, or a 19 piece band with singers. The musical standard is very high and we occasionally have a nationally known artiste perform. Entrance fee is £7 per person. It is run by musicians, one being a local resident, Mervyn Wright, and Lyle and Kim Jenkins. Why not leave the television behind and come and hear some live entertainment on Tuesdays. It is a well appointed suite and the music is not way out stuff that nobody understands.

Talks
The Billericay branch of Arthritis Care meets at The Day Centre on the 2nd Friday of each month at 7.30pm for an informal/friendly evening.  The talk for July 10th is entitled "Where There's a Will there's a Relative" and for August 14th, "More from the Tower of London". Please consider popping along - a warm welcome is assured.
 

Showstoppers 
The Howard Wallace Chorale presents an evening of highlights from Broadway and West End musicals including “Phantom of the Opera”, “Miss Saigon”, plus a new arrangement of “The Sound of Music” by Howard Wallace. The event will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday 11 July in the Bishops Hill Education Centre, Rayleigh Road, Hutton. Billericay Ceramic Circle
The Circle meets on the second Monday of each month at 7.30 p. m. in the committee room of Emmanuel Church Hall, Laindon Road, Billericay.

On 13 July we have a visiting speaker when JONATHAN DUTTON makes a welcome return visit.  Jonathan's talks are always interesting and informative.  This one is entitled "Patriotic Pots".

Trevor Kentish will talk on the subject of" English Blue and White Landscape Scenes" on 10 August

New members and guests are always welcome, and are encouraged to bring pieces from their own collections for discussion.


 Tiny Models
The Billericay Miniatures Club is presenting a display of models, which will include some from the Cater Museum’s collection, entitled “The World in Miniature” in the Cater Museum, 74 High Street, Billericay from 1st July to 19th July. Billericay Music Study Group
Led by composer and Oxford lecturer Mark Taylor, we meet on Mondays from 1.45pm to 3.45pm at the Kathleen Martin Room, United Reform Church, Chapel Street, Billericay. The Autumn term begins on 28 Sptember. The course “The Land with Music” will study anniversary composers, Purcell, Handel, Hatden and Mendelssohn. Further information from John on 01277 651740.
 

University of the Third Age. U3A
Mr Michael Thorp will give a talk entitled “The Brigade of Gurkhas and the Gurkha Trust” on Friday, 24 July at 2.30pm in the Pastoral Centre (behind the Catholic Church) Laindon Road, Billericay.
 

Billericay Archaeological & Historical Society.
“History of the Gardens of Easton Lodge” is the title of a talk which will be presented to members of the society at 8.00pm on Monday 13 July in The Fold, Laindon Road, Billericay.
 
The Billericay Society
The society meets in The Day Centre, Chantry Way, Billericay at 8.00pm on the third Wednesday of the month. On Wednesday 15 July Pam McCarthy will give a talk entitled “AT IRE” Millinery for all Occasions”
 

British Heart Foundation.
The Fund Raising Quiz Evening held on May 16 raised £1107 for the Heart Foundation. Organisers of the event are extremely grateful for the tremendous support and thank the players, over 200, for their generosity.
