Pétanque (Boules) in Billericay

petanque game in progressAnyone who has spent time in France will have played Pétanque, or at least seen it being played in dedicated areas which can be found in all towns and villages. Did you know that it is also widely played in the UK and many Councils are now providing appropriate facilities as part of their commitment to their local communities.
Pétanque is a game that can be played in small or large groups of people of all ages and having various fitness levels and including wheelchair users. It could appeal to those seeking an outdoor activity which is not too strenuous but which provides a pleasant way to spend an hour or two in the fresh air and it does not cost a lot. In addition it can be an opportunity to make new friends.
The photograph shows a group of about 30 people, including 4 from Billericay, enjoying a day out in February at a newly built ‘terrain’ at Hoddesdon. These people and others get together for a few games several times each week at this facility provided by Broxbourne Council.
A request has been made to Billericay Town Council and Basildon District Council to consider providing such facilities at Lake Meadows and in response the Town Council has asked, via the Billericay Town Crier, all persons interested to contact them. To make it happen people must show their support and register their interest with the Town Council.
Interested? Please contact the Council now and help to spread the word.  Billericay Town Council Tel: 01277 625732, e-mail: townclerk@billericaytowncouncil.gov.uk  or Lewis Paul lewis.paul2@gmail.com
