Soap Box Design Prize for Mayflower School

Mayflower School were the winners of the Reading Rooms special competition to design and create a Kart to enter this year’s SoapBox Derby on May 1st

After the huge success of last year’s Derby the Reading Rooms offered a prize to Billericay Secondary Schools for their design of an entry for this year.
Mayflower School and Billericay School put in their entries which were judged by
Malcolm Acors and Mike Sinclair from the Rotary Club  and Andy Maddocks, vice - chair of the Reading Rooms. Andy said “It was close but we just felt the Mayflower entry edged it.”
Let’s hope their completed Kart has the same level of success.

The Reading Rooms Design a Car for the Derby Award was 250 including the 55 entry fee towards the construction of the Soap Box,

The committee also agreed to pay the entry fee for Billericay School who have since said that, though disappointed with not winning, they are committed to the SoapBox Derby and will consider entering two Karts, from the Sixth Form and Year 10.

This is the fourth project the Reading Rooms have completed with local schools in their drive to be at the centre of the community and to encourage young people to identify with their town.

Make sure you have the date in your diary so you can come along and support the Karts on May 1st.  There will be the addition of a big screen this year to add to the excitement.

See you there.
