The Arts Society, Brentwood District

Our members come from places like Brentwood and Billericay, that are within easy reach of Ingatestone where we meet. We have talks; arrange days of special interest and visits; and have a church recording group.

Our talks are at the Community Hall, Ingatestone at 7.30 for 8pm, usually on the 3rd Wednesday of each month They are relaxed and friendly occasions. We have coffee, tea and soft drinks beforehand, when everyone has a chance to chat and say hello. We are pleased that our speakers often say what a friendly and welcoming atmosphere there is. There is plenty of parking available.

Our talks, which are always very well illustrated, are on a wide variety of topics from nationally recognised speakers. Our next speakers, who both appear on TV and radio, are:

Annie Gray - From Boar’s Head to Bisto – Christmas Dinner through history - 15 November.
Thirza Vallois -The Russians are coming: Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes take Paris by storm - 17 January 2018.

Our members look forward to our days of special interest and visits (one day or longer). We’ve just returned from a four-night visit to Madrid, Toledo and Segovia. For 2018, planned visits include Yorkshire and Vienna.

Another of our activities is church recording. We now have a group recording St Christopher’s Church, Willingdale. We record all aspects of the church and then write up what we have found.

Our members are very enthusiastic.
Long term member Kae Freeman thinks "These lectures have proved very enjoyable. Often the least exciting title has turned out to be the most informative and fulfilling talk”. Founder member Barbara Watt commented “We been going for nearly 40 years now and I am just as enthusiastic about it now as I was when we began. I always try to get to our lectures.”

Visitors are always very welcome. The entrance fee for visitors is 7. Why not come to a lecture and find out about us? If you decide to join, and new members are very welcome, your visitor’s fee will be refunded. Full details of our future talks and other activities are on our website brentwood-dfas.org.uk. If you’d like more information or to ask about our activities, call our Membership Secretary Diana Bandy on 01277 353178 or our Deputy Chairman Strachan Heppell on 01277 353418.
