Spring is really with us
and the clocks changing. We look forward
to both of these events as they seem to herald better weather and of course
there are the lighter evenings.
It is that time of the year when local and national choices need to be
made. I notice that a number of the
clubs and groups who are on our events page are having AGMs and reviewing the
last year. BDRA will be doing that in
May as well as listening to residents who said they would like to hear about
the implications of Crossrail on our corner of Essex.
Some clubs have decided to tell us about
what they do and encourage new members by writing about their group. Each group
who has been in the Club Connection slot have reported that they have had new
people come along to their next event. Last
month the Billericay Flower Arranging Group had 4 new members and 4 visitors.
This month it is the turn of the Billericay Bowls Club so if you have been
thinking of giving bowls a try this could be the time to do it.
Someone asked me the other day what I would ask my candidates for local, county
and general elections. I thought for a
moment and said that they listen to the concerns of the people they represent
and take action on the key issues which affect us. This is a general answer and I challenge you,
through the letters page for the May edition, to tell us what the key question is
you are asking parish/town or county councillors.
As we all know many issues do not have simple solutions but a series of
solutions so we need to start somewhere and move forward with a purpose.
We are excited to welcome Jonathan Baggs, Area
Community Relations Manager (Surface East) from Crossrail to be our speaker at
our AGM on May 20th.
We will be asking him to talk about how the idea of Crossrail was conceived and
what the benefits of Crossrail to the people of Billericay will be. This
project will definitely impact on the journeys of everyone who uses the train
so we want to know how we should use the service to best advantage and how the
new service will fit into existing timetables.
If you are interested do come along – 20th May – 8pm – Emmanuel
And if the speaker doesn’t tempt you maybe the cakes and refreshments will.
This Could be YOU!
