New Year, New "Resident"
Following the amalgamation of the Billericay Residents’ Association with the Buttsbury Residents’ Association the Executive Committee of the newly formed Billericay District Residents’ Assodiation decided that the newsletters Buttsbury News and The Mayflower should be replaced with a news sheet which would be called “The Resident”. It would have the Mayflower ship as a logo with the words “Help Us To Help You” and the title “Billericay District Residents’ Association along with the date. Details of the editor would appear at the bottom of the last page. It was decided not to have advertisements “because there could be problems –e.g. collecting the money”. The circulation was to be 5,000 and the cost of printing £82 at a time when the membership subscription was 35p.The first copy of The Resident was circulated in May 1978.
The format of the newsletter has not changed since that date with the exception that advertisements were included for the first time in the April 1989 issue of the newsletter. Of course the Association runs more coach trips now and since November 1991 has advertised events organised by other groups and associations in the town free of charge. However after 28 years the time has come to make changes to the appearance of the newsletter, to make it more striking and to give it a new image. The banner headline stays since that is, so to speak the “brand Image” of the association as does the Mayflower ship along with the words “Help Us To Help You” but it is now in colour. There is no separate advertising supplement they are all included in the main body thus giving 12 pages.
In the future new articles will be included, for instance it is the intention to include letters to the editor where our members, and others who read the newsletter, will be able to have their say whilst at the same time increasing the space available to advertise events held by other groups and associations. Hopefully the overall effect will be to present a more dynamic and interesting news sheet. Please let me have your comments.

Similarly if an event is scheduled for 3 September then the advertisement should appear in the July issue.
