Looking Forward

This month’s Resident is full of information about future events,  useful financial information , advertisers old and new to give you information which you will not find in one place in any other magazine.
This year has local and national anniversaries. The W.I. is 100 and 1915 as the second year of the first world war will have its own significant dates. The Cater Museum and the Reading Rooms are holding specific events.  I am sure there are others and encourage people to get in touch to let us know so we can let you know.

There is a great programme of coach trips arranged by Yvonne and Kathleen. These continue to be so popular and are thoroughly enjoyed.  It is nice to see such a variety.

Committee news keeps you in touch with planning and the changes we see in and around Billericay which affect us all.  Just slightly further afield we have the development of Crossrail which will have an effect on us.  Do put the AGM date in your diary Wednesday 20th May to find out about Crossrail and to ask your questions.

Its the year of local and national elections. Let’s all put our crosses on the ballot papers against those who have the same passion for Billericay and our country as we do. Our votes can really make a difference.
We welcome a new Vice Chairman to our Committee. Andy brings a whole raft of skills and enthusiasm to the post and is keen to have feedback on the Association’s activities.  We are also looking for a new treasurer to carry on the great work which Ron did. Maralyn Buchanan has kept everything going and the accounts are up to date to hand over to our next Treasurer.

There are many volunteers working behind the scenes helping the Residents of Billericay to have a voice in a number of arenas. The road reps, the area secretary’s, the committee, the editorial team at the resident, the distribution team and those of you who send letters and emails about issues. Please support all these people in any way you can.

If you know of anyone who would like a copy of The Resident then ask them to get in touch with the chairman@bdra.rog or give John a ring on 01277 656715.  If you would like a monthly walk around your neighbourhood delivering Residents then also get in touch with John.

I would like to specially remember some of our road reps who are in or have recently been in hospital and  those who have given years of service to the Association.  Also i want to send the Asociation’s best wishes for a speedy recovery toSteve Dodge who writes one of our financial articles as he recovers from his illness.  I miss Steve’s articles as they have the personal touch and he is able to make complex financial matters easy to understand.  Georgina has written a great article about the new pension rules which I would commend to those who are about to retire. Ruth has also written about the importance of wills.  If you haven’t made one the new rules are simpler but clearly suggest that if you don’t have a will it causes complications for others.
Let’s look forward with optimism to a year of opportunity.  May 2015 be a great year for you.
