BILLERICAY
TWINNING ASSOCIATION
Twinned with Fishers & Chauvigny
Students
and teachers from Hamilton Southeastern High School and Fishers High School
situated in our twin town of Fishers, Indiana visited Billericay during the
week Thursday June 14 to Thursday June 21. Twinning visits are usually
pretty hectic and this one was no exception. Our guests spent a day at
Mayflower School and also at Billericay School where they had first hand
experience of the English education system. They had a day in London and a
day at Kentwell Hall in Long Melford where they attended the Great Annual
Tudor Re-Creation an event similar to the one that English students
experienced on their visit to Fishers last year. The Americans hold a
Renaissance Fayre in October which recreates an English village in the
middle ages with jousting, sword fighting and various other pursuits
relevant to the time.
The Youth Town Council meeting proved interesting to our guests and once introductions were complete the young people exchanged gifts and mementos from their respective towns. Of course there has to be a day set aside to chill out and, with the weather being kind, everyone enjoyed a trip in a long boat on the River Chelmer.
Unfortunately a week is hardly long enough to see all the places of interest in Billericay and in no time at all it was Thursday and our visitors left Billericay for home.
