Billericay Twinning Association
Ten
years ago on 7 September 1998 in St Mary Magdalene Church, Great Burstead
the Billericay Twinning Association signed a charter with the town of
Fishers, Indiana, USA causing the two towns to be twinned; later on 24 June
1999 a reciprocal charter was signed in Fishers. Since this time the two
towns have become closely linked with students, teachers and officials of
both towns meeting yearly.
A group of four students and two teachers visited Billericay for a week commencing Tuesday Jun 10; they were hosted by parents of children attending Billericay and Mayflower schools. In addition to visiting sites of interest in Billericay they learnt about the education system in England, spending a day at each of the two schools. No visit to England is complete without a trip to London where they saw the majority of the tourist sights. In between all this hectic activity there had to be time to chill out and this they did with a day cruising down the River Chelmer on a long boat out of Paper Mill Lock. A farewell dinner on Monday night was a fitting end to a memorable visit in which friendships were made and promises to keep in touch exchanged. The American visitors left for home on Tuesday morning Jun 17 at 8am. The photo shows students and teachers from Fishers and students from the two Billericay schools.
