Welcome to a sunny summer edition of The Resident. The Rotary Club are holding their annual Summerfest on 9th July at Sun Corner. This is always a great community event and fundraiser. BDRA will be there and also sponsoring the ever-popular Punch and Judy shows. The Community Cinema goes from strength to strength so do check on page 4 to see their listings.
There are still places on a couple of the Coach Trips and a new theatre trip to Kinky Boots in November. The Cater Museum is featured on page 7, which gives us a fascinating insight into the town and area. Do visit and take friends to this little gem of a local museum.
I was on the 100 bus to Chelmsford the other day and had a delightful chat with the lady beside me. She said that she sends the Resident to friends who used to live in Billericay. They now live in Bracknell. It set me to wondering whether anyone else can beat that for the distance that the Resident goes. Do let me know if you know of it travelling further on email@example.com.
Local Plan Update
It would appear that the Plan is ready however we are waiting for an independent review. So far there does not seem to be a timeline for this. The change in the balance of power and decision-making structure in the Council is giving us cause for alarm as it is unclear as to whether Billericay’s interests are being well represented. BDRA, BAG and the Billericay Society are keeping their eye on the ball. We would welcome interested residents to come to East/Burstead and West Area committees to be part of what the Association is trying to achieve. We have been told on numerous occasions that BDRA is an influential organisation whose voice needs to be heard. Don’t leave it to the few.
Would you believe it?
After we have had the inconvenience of having the pavements dug up in our cul-de-sac and general mayhem for 10 days I have received a letter from Virgin media to say they are going to come and lay cables. I have no objection to an improvement in broadband coverage however communication from a large media and communication company could be much better.

Similarly if an event is scheduled for September then the advertisement should appear in the July issue.
