Mr David Kershaw, Passenger Transport Contracts Manager for Essex County Council, gave an interesting talk on how local bus services were financed and managed after which light refreshments were served.

FAB 2000 - SATURDAY 24 JUNE - once again the delightful church of St Mary Magdalene at Great Burstead is organising FAB, the "Festival At Burstead". There will be a concert on Friday evening and special services, including a special "Songs of Praise", on Sunday evening.

This year the theme of the Festival will be "People and Events Through the Ages". On Saturday 24 June, from 11am to 4pm, in the church and grounds there will be a wide variety of arena events and stalls plus many other attractions including, a fancy dress competition, craft fayre and art exhibition.

For anyone interested in churches and church architecture this very attractive and historic church (the oldest parts of which date from the 12th century) will be open to visitors on Sunday afternoons from 3pm. to 5pm until September.

SATURDAY 26 JUNE at 7.45pm in the Day Centre, Chantry Way. NORSEY WOOD SOCIETY. Talk by Richard Wallis on Danbury Common and Blakes Wood owned by the National Trust. All are welcome. Enquiries - please ring 01277 653852

CHURCHES TOGETHER IN BILLERICAY MILLENNIUM FLOWER FESTIVAL

FRIDAY 30 JUNE - SUNDAY 2 JULY

This Festival will take place at St Mary's on the High Street and the theme will be "In the Steps of Jesus".

Flower arrangers from the Anglican, Catholic, Baptist, URC and Methodist Church are all participating and a small ecumenical group has been working hard over the past few months to plan this Festival. All the proceeds from the weekend will be going to St Lukes Hospice.

Times of opening are:- Friday 30 June & Saturday 1 July - 10am to 6pm. Sunday 2 July - 2pm to 5pm.

Saturday 1 July is also Billericay Fun Day when there will be arena events and stalls on Sun Corner. Book these dates in your diary and be sure to come along and give us your support. All offers of help will be gratefully received and should be made to Janet Lee on 01277 622297.

FRIDAY 14 JULY - 7.30pm onwards. BASILDON AND DISTRICT BRANCH OF THE NATIONAL CHILDBIRTH TRUST is holding a "LADIES NIGHT". Jurgen Wolff, writer of popular sitcoms BENSON and FAMILY TIES and 1998 Hollywood feature film THE REAL HOWARD SPITZ, talks about humorous memories of Hollywood, script writing and how to write sitcoms. SATURDAY 22 JULY - BLETCHLEY PARK (STATION X). Britain's "secret army" was stationed here during the war engaged in cracking the codes used by our enemies. Even today many of these people refuse to divulge details of their work . It is fair to say that without their efforts using the highly acclaimed "Enigma" machine, and their keen minds, the war would have taken toll of many more lives. A guided tour has been arranged round the various rooms after which you are at liberty to wander at will. Refreshments can be purchased. Inclusive Cost - Adults £12.00, Senior Citizens/Children £11.
