Well done to those intrepid Residents who braved the weather to come to the AGM. As you will see from the reports the Association has had a busy year raising its visibility, making partnerships, sponsoring local events, offering new and favourite coach trips and looking to the future of our town and district. All of this sits on the shoulders of a few people and to continue our engagement and commitment to residents we need more volunteers.
Harwich Mayflower Project
Sean Day inspired us with his vision of a replica Mayflower sailing out of
Harwich in 2020 with a flotilla of other marine craft, large and small, to
celebrate 400 years since the pilgrims left our shores.
Then on its return there will be the legacy of a Maritime Museum with the Mayflower as its centrepiece. Also there are plans to plant 1000 trees for every tree used in the ship to create a Mayflower Country Park. The sites being looked at for a variety of native trees include floodplains.
He spoke of the benefits to young people who have been volunteers in the project. Already the experiences they are having are changing lives and bringing them a new confidence.
Do visit Harwich and see the project in progress. Know that it will be finished even though there are some naysayers out there.
