Visit to Fishers

A party of two teachers and four students from the Billericay and Mayflower schools accompanied Marion Wilson, the chair of the Billericay Twinning Association to our Sister City, Fishers at the beginning of October. This was a return following the visit of a similar party of American students and teachers to us in June of this year.
We were well looked after in an exhausting programme that saw some of us joining their Rotary club breakfast meeting at 7 am .and being in one of the schools for a session at 7.15 a.m.The schools themselves were very impressive both in terms of size. cleanliness and facilities. Particularly for sport.
While we were there the Renaissance Fayre took place and Billericay was well represented on the map showing the location of different events such as jousting and sword fighting. So one could find The Red Lion, Tye Common, Norsey Wood and the High Street as well as the Billericay Jail! We even had the Billericay Mayor greeting Queen Elizabeth.
Plans are well in hand for the Americans to visit us in June 2008 and for a return visit to Fishers next October.
Road Reps Wanted
I would like to write an advertisement for road reps which was highly amusing, intellectually stimulating, thought provoking and, in the idiom of the time, cool but on this occasion, some may say on all occasions, words fail me. So, just for a change, here is a request for a Road Rep to deliver the newsletter to 65 houses in Coombes Close, Brightside Close and Brightside. Interested? Please ring Trevor Stansfield on 012777 623519.
Another Road Rep is required to deliver The Resident to 26 houses in Mons Avenue, Shakespeare Avenue and Thynne Road. Contact Julia Nairne on 01277 631829.
Yet another Road Rep is required to deliver the Newsletter to 20 houses in Weir Wynd and Fairview. Someone is also required to collect subscriptions in Quilters. Telephone John Buchanan on 01277 656715

If an event is to be held before the 10th of the month then, to ensure circulation, the advertisement should be included in the previous month’s issue e.g. an event taking place on 3 May should be advertised in the April issue. Similarly if an event is scheduled for 3 September then the advertisement should appear in the July issue.
