Welcome to November's Resident

November is seen as a month of remembrance and commemoration. Many people will enjoy the spectacle of the fireworks at Lake Meadows and others will reflect on those who have died in conflict at the Town’s Memorial.  Times of reflection raise the question about what would we have done and what can we do? Also what have we learnt from past events which change our actions?

What can we do?

A number of online forums such as Billericay discussion group and Streetlife have suggested that planning proposals such as the Barratt’s one for 180 houses in South Green are fait accompli.  They are not since planning applications have not been made.   Articles on The Future of Billericay and South Green Housing highlight processes and how you can be involved. We do have a voice so let’s use it!
Another issue is the closing of the police station and the vast reduction in police staff. Police cutbacks are a travesty and down to ever diminishing resources.  The linking of need to finances is a difficult argument to balance.  Already there has been a statement about where the police’s resources are to be directed so our expectations about their ability to respond to the crimes which affect us such as burglaries, car theft and fraud are much diminished.
Our response has to be pragmatic since it is difficult for us to influence these decisions. Looking out for ourselves and others especially the more vulnerable would seem to be the way forward.  It is not nosiness but caring. Surely Neighbourhood Watch is one solution worth considering.
I ask for people to get in touch and a lady rang me the other day and suggested that Residents might be interested in further details re the regulations about party walls when work is being done which involves the wall.  If you are interested and know someone who can submit an article for information for others please let us know at resident@bdra.org.

 This Could be YOU!
The Road reps are the backbone of the Association.  Without them you would not receive your Resident.  If road reps are not found for these rounds then the delivery will have to discontinue.  The best people to deliver to a road are those who live in it. These rounds only mean a time commitment of 20-30mins for 10 months a year and a little extra for collecting subs. Please don’t let the rounds disappear as the previous residents are likely to have delivered the rounds for many years.
