Crown Road/Jacksons Lane footpath
Late last year the Association was asked by a resident to assist with a problem regarding the state of the footpath between Jacksons Lane and Crown Road.
For some time water had been seeping up near the entry at Jacksons Lane and spreading across the path. Even during the very hot weather last summer (remember that?) the surface of the path was continually moist, and the surrounding ground waterlogged. By the autumn, the path was quite slippery - muddy and covered with wet leaves. Essex and Suffolk Water apparently had disclaimed responsibility because tests showed no trace of chlorine in the water. It was, therefore, concluded that there must be an underground spring in the vicinity which had somehow been diverted.
The
Association asked Essex County Council to investigate, pointing out the
hazardous state of this well-used footpath and the possibility of worse
problems if the surface should freeze during the winter.
ECC promptly responded, saying that the surface of the path would be raised so that the excess water could be channelled underneath. Repairs would also be carried out to other defective sections of the footpath.
Finally, this summer, the work was carried out. Although the ground alongside is still quite boggy, the path itself is greatly improved and provides a more secure route from the Jacksons Lane area to the High Street.
