Your Local Talking Newspaper
As
part of National Talking Newspaper Week there will be an exhibition
about your
local Talking Newspaper in Billericay Library from Saturday 12th
to
Monday 14th September.
Come along
to find out more
about us, and on Saturday or Monday you can meet some of our volunteers.
The aim of
Talking Newspapers
is to give the visually impaired the opportunity to receive, through
the post,
an audio recording of articles taken from local newspapers read by our
volunteers.
We were
formed 32 years ago
in Wickford, hence our name Wickford and
District Talking Newspaper.
We quickly expanded to include listeners in Billericay. In 2006 we
incorporated
listeners from Basildon Talking Newspaper when it closed. Our listeners
are
evenly spread between Billericay, Wickford and the
Every
Friday a one hour news
recording is produced and despatched so our listeners receive it the
next day
in either cassette, tape, CD or MP3/Memory stick format. There is no
charge for
this service and postage is free. Each month two other recordings
covering
items of interest and relevance to our listeners are sent out.
If you are
visually
impaired, or know someone - a relative, friend or neighbour who might
be
interested in receiving this free service, contact us on 07766 671695 or come along and meet us in Billericay
library.
If you are
interested in joining
us as a volunteer – either as a reader, on the technical side, or
helping with the
administration, we would be delighted to hear from you.
If you would like to find out more, visit our website www.wickfordtalkingnewspaper.org.uk where you can also listen to our latest recordings.
