Billericay Ceramic Circle
The next meeting takes place on Monday 14 September at 7.30 p.m. in Emmanuel Church Hall, Laindon Road, Billericay when ceramic historian Robin Gurnett makes a welcome return visit.  His talk is entitled "English Ceramic Exports to India".  All members are urged to attend and guests are very welcome.
 
University of the Third Age. U3A
This year is the twentieth anniversary of the formation of the Basildon & Billericay University of the Third Age and the committee intend to celebrate the occasion on Friday 25 September with a social event in the Canon Roche Hall commencing at 2.00pm. Billericay Archaeological & Historical Society
“History & Heraldry of the Kytson Family of Hengrave Hall” is the title of a talk which will be presented to members of the society at 8.00pm on Monday 14 September in The Fold, Laindon Road, Billericay.

The society meets in The Day Centre, Chantry Way, Billericay at 8.00pm on the third Wednesday of the month. On Wednesday 16 September Fran Smith will give a talk entitled “Anecdotes from the Remus Trust Horse Sanctuary”

Billericay & District Philatelic Society.
The Society meets at 8pm in The Fold, Laindon Road, Billericay on the first and third Thursday of the month.
Thursday 3 September John Rawkins will give a display entitled “Airmails. UK to India/Australia”.
Wednesday 9 September  Billericay PS visits Brentwood PS
Thursday 17 September another display this time by Len Keeley entitled “A Trip Through the West Indies”
Thursday 1 October a display by Barrie Cook entitled “Postal History of Selected King George VI Commonwealth Commemorative issues”.
Thursday 15 September an Open Night with Dealers.

Billericay Horticultural Society
On Monday 5 September the society will hold its Annual Show in the Methodist Church Hall, Western Road  from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
Mr Graham Proctor will give a talk to members entitled “All About Growing Apples Trees” at 8.00pm on Monday 21 September in the Day Centre, Chantry way

Belvedere Jazz Band

Billericay WI
Wednesday 16 September is Show Day at Billericay Women’s Institute when members will have eight classes in which to enter exhibits, these will be judged by everyone present on the day. As always visitors are always welcome us in the WI Hall, St Edith’s Lane, Billericay at 2.00pm. Entry fee is £1 which includes light refreshments.
The WI will be taking part in the World’s Largest Coffee Morning – in aid of McMillan Cancer Charity - on Friday 25 September from 10.00am to 12.00 noon in the WI Hall, St Edith’s Lane. There will be stalls and a raffle in addition to a choice of home made cakes to help the coffee down. Hope to see you there.
Also on Friday 25 September in the WI Hall at 7.00pm for 7.30pm start there will be a Quiz Night. Tickets at £3 can be obtained by ringing 01277 624255.

Billericay Music Study Group
Led by composer and Oxford lecturer Mark Taylor, we meet on Mondays from 1.45pm to 3.45pm at the Kathleen Martin Room, United Reform Church, Chapel Street, Billericay. The Autumn term begins on 28 September. The course “The Land with Music” will study anniversary composers, Purcell, Handel, Hatden and Mendelssohn. Further information from John on 01277 651740.

St Luke’s Hospice
Billericay Fundraising Group.
The Billericay Fundraising Group for St Luke’s Hospice meets every two months and is looking for new members to the group to help organise their fund raising events. Every year three coffee mornings are held in the Reading Rooms, a cream tea in Little Burstead in June and a bazaar in October; additionally there are two street collections in Billericay. Organising these events can be good fun as well as raising much needed funds for the Hospice so if you want to add spice to your life please ring 01277 625100. The group is also seeking someone with secretarial skills.

Stepping Forward.
Stepping Forward is a social group aimed to give support to families in the community who have suffered a bereavement and who feel they would like to start taking up their life again and join in social events.
The Group meets on the first Saturday of each month The Village Bar & Grill, 120 High Street, Billericay (next to Waitrose) between 10.00 a.m.-12.00 noon. This is a very informal meeting with the opportunity to introduce ourselves and advise of different events taking place, including Quiz Nights, BBQ's, Ten Pin Bowling, Jazz nights.

CHARITY LUNCH at Billericay Methodist Church, Western Road on Saturday 19th September 12.30 - 2pm.   Snack lunch and a drink for £3.50.  No need to book.  Proceeds to DEBRA - research into Epidermolysis Bullosa, a genetic condition where the skin blisters at the slightest knock.
 
The Bill Legend Band will be returning to Christ Church, Perry Street, Billericay CM12 0NX on Saturday 26 September at 8.00 pm. This follows on from their successful concert in Billericay back in December 2007 when about 100 people enjoyed a great evening.
Bill Legend was for many years the drummer with 70's Rock band T-REX. He has been a Christian for many years and the concert will be a mix of T-REX songs, worship songs, testimony, interviews, photographs and fun!
This time around the concert falls in the same week as the anniversary of the death of Marc Bolan, with Bill and the band hoping that this will attract more local T-REX fans to come and hear Bill's story of faith.

Bowls
You too could become addicted to bowls so why not come and give it a try?  We are holding a Taster Weekend on Friday 25th September 4-10 pm and Saturday 26th 10-3pm at Stonyhill Indoor Bowls Club, A128 Brentwood Road, Herongate CM13 3LE.  A team of helpers will be on hand to get you started and we have a licensed bar and large carpark.  All you need is a pair of smooth-soled flat shoes/slippers.  We have bowls you can borrow.  It will cost nothing so just call and book in on 01277 811848.

The Workers’ Educational Association (WEA).
A 6 week course entitled “Art, Architecture and Music”, tutor Andrew Rothwell, will be held in The Reading Rooms, High Street, Billericay commencing Wednesday 16 September 2009 at 7.30pm and finishing at 9.30pm.
The aim of the course is to examine the history of Britain through its rich cultural and artistic heritage. It will examine Britain’s cultural heritage produced over the last 1000 years and will ask what makes an art-work, a building or a piece of music essentially British. Topics under consideration will include: “Royalty”, “Cathedrals and Carbuncles”, “War and Peace” and “You never had it so good?” The course will include participation in discussion.
